The series of Crystal Forms meetings in Bologna was initiated in 2006 as a joint (ad)venture of the Molecular Crystal Engineering (MCE) group at the Chemistry Department G. Ciamician of the University of Bologna and of the company PolyCrystalLine SpA, launched a year earlier as a spinoff of the MCE group.

In keeping with the tradition of CF@Bo, the main objective of the meeting is that of providing a forum for an open academy-industry discussion of the new challenges that the theme “crystal forms” presents daily to researchers in both working environments. In two and a half days we will get an updated overview of where we stand in the field.

CF@Bo also represents an opportunity for young researchers to meet senior scientists and researchers from academy and industry and to establish new collaborations.

As you can see below, the scientific programme of this 12th edition is very dense and varied. We are proud of the response to our invitation. Speakers are coming from 16 universities and research institutions, and from 15 companies. We are also very happy of the fair gender balance, which has always been an objective of our meeting.

We are happy to be able to come together again in person. No matter how convenient virtual communication can be, nothing can replace the benefits of social interaction between people who are sharing a cup of coffee or glass of wine. Let’s not forget that this renewed opportunity is largely due to research efforts of scientists like those attending CF@Bo.

Please note that early bird registration, now open, will be possible till June 30

Poster abstracts (max 1 page, A4 format, with title, authors and affiliation, text / figures and references) must be submitted before June 30 by email to crystalforms.unibo@gmail.com

We are grateful to the following sponsors: AIC (Italian Association of Crystallography), Anton Paar Italia, Dompé, SMS/Nordtest, Mettler-Toledo S.p.A., Amofor, Bruker, PolyCrystalLine CMDO, Malvern Panalytical, Achelit srl, Netzsch, Technobis.

The journals CrystEngComm (RSC) and Crystal Growth and Design (ACS) will sponsor “best poster” prizes.

Please, attend the talks and ask questions and also visit the poster session and ask even more questions to those presenting their posters and do not forget to take a look at the sponsors exhibits.

Beside the scientific and social programme, we have organized a special session (on Monday 11 at 4 pm) on the “crystal ceiling” experienced by women scientists in the development of their career. We have also organized a mini-questionnaire on the important issue of sustainability of meeting and conferences.

Finally, don’t miss the opportunity to visit Bologna: a medieval town, site of the oldest university of the western world.

Boursaries supported by speakers and sponsors are available to cover a limited number of registration fees of young researchers. A one page application for a waiver, accompanied by a short CV and the title of the poster intended for presentation at the convention, should be sent by email to prof. Dario Braga.(dario.braga@unibo.it).

Also the AIC “Associazione Italiana Cristallografia”  supports the participation of  up to 5 young AIC members (visit “How to become a member” to join). The amount of the grant will cover the  registration fee. Please send  an e-mail of request to prof. Lucia Maini ( l.maini@unibo.it) with a short CV.

All applications for support to attend the convention should be submitted before  the 15th May 2023.
